Through a partnership with Collège Boréal, some grade 11 and 12 students from École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur (Sudbury) interested in pursuing a career in mechanical technology are pursuing their passion in a very stimulating learning environment. Registered in the Motors 1 dual credit program (DCP) since February, these students are learning in modern facilities at Collège Boréal. While completing high school level courses, students will be able to take college or apprenticeship credit courses.

“We are pleased to support some of our students to become familiar with the heavy machinery mechanics domain. By having access to high-level workshops and qualified teachers from Boréal, students will be exposed to the mechanical world and will be better prepared to pursue studies at the college level and in the trades," explained Ms. Suzanne Lapointe, ÉS du Sacré-Coeur Principal.

Through this experience, which will continue until May, participating ÉS du Sacré-Coeur students will be equipped to understand the theoretical principles that govern the field of heavy machinery mechanics. In addition, they will study the operation and repair of diesel engines. They will be able to make close links with the practical applications which are carried out in the workshop apprenticeship courses.

This experience is well received since by participating in a DCP, ÉS du Sacré-Coeur students will have the opportunity to pursue their secondary school studies while taking college courses or apprenticeship courses which will also count towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
