On June 17, the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) held its third public meeting at École Ste-Thérèse (Val Thérèse). The purpose of this session was to inform its Hanmer and Val Thérèse school communities of the results of the feasibility study of École St-Joseph (Hanmer), École Ste-Thérèse (Val Thérèse) and École Notre-Dame (Hanmer) as well as the evaluation of eleven school site options in Hanmer and Val Thérèse, which included the construction of a new school as well as the modernization of existing buildings. These options may be offered to students if funding can be secured from the Ministry of Education.

The external evaluation committee recommends two options:

Option 1:   the construction of a new school for the École St-Joseph and École Ste-Thérèse students. École Notre-Dame would remain on its present site.

Option 2:   the construction of a new school that would unite students from the three schools (Notre-Dame, St-Joseph and Ste-Thérèse) on a new site. The external evaluation committee also identified four properties in Hanmer and Val Thérèse where it would be possible to build a new JK to grade 8 school.

The document outlining this project and identifying the two proposed options is available online at: http://www.nouvelon.ca/deuxoptions/hanmer/valtherese.pdf . The CSCNO encourages parents, students and school staff to send their opinion and recommendations by email to by August 18, 2014.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) operates three elementary schools in Hanmer and Val Thérèse. École Notre-Dame (Hamner) is a JK to grade 8 school while École St-Joseph (Hanmer) has students from JK to grade 3 and École Ste-Thérèse (Val Thérèse) counts grade 4 to 8 students.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
