Earlier this week, the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) released the 2018-2019 provincial testing results for Ontario’s grades 3, 6, 9 and 10 students. The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon notes that its students continue to perform at a high level, especially in reading.

This year, reading results of CSCNO grade 3 students stands at 84% for a second consecutive year. Writing results reached 72% while mathematics sits at 73%. Grade 6 students also stood out in this year’s reading results, reaching 93%. Mathematics results stand at 78% and writing at 72%.

The success rate of grade 9 students in the academic mathematics program stands at 75%. In the applied mathematics program, 48% of students reached level 3 or 4. These are among the best results achieved by CSC Nouvelon students since provincial testing began, reflecting both the high quality of the educational program in CSCNO schools and the excellence of its teachers.

Grade 10 student results were 81% in the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). Achieving this result in a linguistic minority setting is quite an accomplishment, and the CSC Nouvelon takes pride in standing out among French-language school boards in Northern Ontario.

“As reflected in the yearly numbers, our students continue to perform remarkably well at all levels of provincial testing. They greatly benefit from our teaching strategies, ongoing support and pedagogical initiatives,” explained Ms. Nicole Sonier, Executive Director of Learning at the CSC Nouvelon. “While excelling in reading and observing an upward trend in mathematics at the secondary school level, we observed a slight decrease in writing and mathematics in grades 3 and 6 in the last year. We will analyse our results and develop improved strategies that will help ensure student success in these areas.”

“The commitment of our school staff enables us to offer standout learning programs of high quality,” stated Ms. Lyse-Anne Papineau, CSC Nouvelon Director of Education. “Motivated by the desire to remain a top-performing school board, we will continue to perfect our teaching strategies in order to increase our students’ success rate and offer our families the quality French-language Catholic education that they have come to expect for their children.”

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSC Nouvelon provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
