Young masters surpass themselves at the Collège Notre-Dame Chess Tournament

On December 5, no less than 98 chess enthusiasts took part in the very first Collège Notre-Dame Chess Tournament. Gathered in the gymnasium of this secondary school were grade 7 and 8 students from the following ten Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon elementary schools: École La Renaissance (Espanola), École Notre-Dame (Hanmer), École St-Thomas (Warren), École Jean-Paul II (Val Caron), École Ste-Thérèse (Val Thérèse), École Ste Marie (Azilda), École St-Pierre (Sudbury), École St-Denis (Sudbury), École Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford) and École St-Antoine (Noelville). Each player had the opportunity to play five matches.

A human chain from École St-Augustin to the Garson Food Bank

On Tuesday, December 13, at 11:30 a.m., students from kindergarten to grade 8 at École St-Augustin (Garson) will form a human chain from their school located at 648 O'Neil Drive West, to the Garson Food Bank, which is located 200 meters from their school at 579 O'Neil Drive West to help families in need in their community before the Christmas holiday.

Supporting Anglophone parents in their efforts to help their child learn in French

This year, parents and guardians of Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon students will have the opportunity to follow two free French as a second language programs. The Beginner 1 program will run for 15 weeks whereas the Beginner Conversation program is an 8-week course. Both programs, starting January 17, 2023, will be offered online by Collège Boréal. These programs will support Anglophone parents as they learn and communicate in French to better support their child’s learning. The cost of the courses is covered by the CSC Nouvelon Parent Involvement Committee. However, spaces in both programs are limited.

Christmas Carousel Activity at École St-Augustin

Children three-years of age and starting Kindergarten in September 2023 are invited, along with their parents, to take part in École St-Augustin’s Christmas Carousel on Friday, December 9, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Children will be able to participate in a variety of fun games as well as Christmas arts and craft activities. Snacks will be served. A special guest appearance by Santa Claus is also scheduled. École St-Augustin is located at 648 O’Neil Drive West, in Garson.

Carrefour Options+ to offer in January 2023 the Personal Support Worker program in French

Starting in January 2023, Carrefour Options+, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon’s continuing education school, will offer the Personal Support Worker (PSW) program in Sudbury. Offered to students 18 years of age and older, this program will allow those interested in becoming a PSW to be trained in French in order to provide care to individuals and families in a variety of settings, including long-term residential institutions and community home care agencies. CSC Nouvelon is the second school board to offer this program in French in Ontario.
Two CSC Nouvelon students are living an unforgettable experience at Queen’s Park

From November 14 until December 8, two Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon students will have the opportunity to live a unique experience at Queen’s Park as Pages in the province’s Legislature. Ema MacAulay, a grade 8 student at École catholique Félix-Ricard (Sudbury), and Havana Thibodeau-Bello, a grade 8 student at École Saint-Joseph (Wawa), were selected among hundreds of applicants seeking to participate in the Legislative Page Program.

Grade 8 students and their parents are invited to take part in École secondaire Notre-Dame-du-Sault’s Open House event on Thursday, December 1, at 6:30 p.m., at the school located at 600 North St. in Sault Ste. Marie.
