A brilliant performance by five Collège Notre-Dame students at the Franco-Ontarian Chess Tournament

Students from Sudbury’s Collège Notre-Dame displayed great skill during the recent Franco-Ontarian Chess Tournament in Haileybury from May 8 to 10. This activity enabled the 235 student players to measure their skills in a discipline that requires much strategizing, memory and problem-solving abilities.
300 CSCNO students to take part in local We Day rally

Some 300 grade 7 and 8 students from several Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools will gather at Sudbury’s École St-Denis (1200 Ramsey View Court) on Thursday, May 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to participate in the We Day rally. Members of the media are invited to attend.

Today, the eight Catholic school boards met for a press conference at Toronto’s Sacré-Coeur Parish to launch an important instrument aimed at providing a guide for the future of French- Catholic education in the 213 elementary and 58 secondary French-language Catholic schools in Ontario. At the beginning of the press conference, Ms. Nathalie Dufour-Séguin, Chair of the Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud (CSDCCS), set the tone for the event by stating: "We are delighted to greet our colleagues from other Francophone Catholic school boards in the Queen City, a stone's throw from Queen’s Park, to proclaim loud and clear the benefits of a Catholic French-language education."

Young chess masters gather in Wawa to compete in the Franco-Nord-Ouest Chess Tournament

Some 110 young chess masters will meet in Wawa on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 for the first ever Franco-Nord-Ouest Chess Tournament. The competition, hosted by Wawa’s École Saint-Joseph, will attract francophone students from the following Northwestern Ontario French Catholic and Public schools: École Saint-Joseph (Wawa), École Saint Nom de Jésus (Hornepayne), École St-Joseph (Dubreuilville), É.s. l’Orée des bois (Dubreuilville), École Franco-Manitou (Manitowadge) and École l’Escalade (Wawa).

Some 650 francophone students from 88 French language Catholic and public secondary schools will gather in Hearst from May 16 to 19 to take part in the 21st edition of the Jeux franco-ontariens (Franco-Ontarian Games). Held at École secondaire catholique de Hearst under the theme “Forêt pas manquer ça,” this annual provincial gathering attracts a great deal of attention among students from the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO).

École Ste-Marie students win silver in robotics at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition

Members of the École Ste-Marie (Azilda) intermediate robotics team accomplished quite a feat by claiming the silver medal in the robotics event held on May 5 at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition. The Ordilions team from École Ste-Marie qualified for this provincial competition by finishing first at the intermediate level in the Great Robotic Challenge organized by the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) in March.
