Sudbury’s École catholique Félix-Ricard will host its first student Leadership Day on Thursday, May 8, from 9 a.m. to 12-noon. During this activity, students and school staff will promote the benefits of  The Leader in Me Program since the integration of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People to the school in 2011. Members of the media are invited.

The student teams from École St-Dominique (Sudbury) and École Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford) were dominant at the 11th annual Battle of the Books competition on April 30, 2014 and won the top two medals. The Requins from École St-Dominique pursued their domination at this event by winning the gold medal in the Francophone competition. École St-Dominique students have a well-deserved reputation of representing a school whose students devour books and love to read. This is the fifth time in the last seven years that this French Catholic school has claimed the championship.

Sudbury, April 28, 2014 – On Tuesday, May 6, and Wednesday, May7, more than 100 students from the eight French-language Catholic School Boards in Ontario will converge on Toronto to take part in an important Symposium that will allow them to affirm their Catholic faith loud and clear, and develop their Christian leadership.

Sudbury’s École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur will host a book fair featuring French-language books and educational products on Wednesday, April 30, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. The book fair will allow students and their families to choose from a variety of French-language educational products such as books, videos, DVDs, software, and educational games. The book fair will benefit students, since part of the profits will go towards the purchase of educational resources for the school. Admission is free and everyone is invited.

SUDBURY – The University of Sudbury and Sudbury’s École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur will highlight their common history and links during an event on Tuesday, April 22, for Earth Day. Their collaboration will allow them to plant 100 trees, generously donated by Collège Boréal. This green event will begin at 10:30 a.m. on the grounds of École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur (261, Notre Dame Avenue, Sudbury).  Presentations pertaining to Earth Day will be given by Marcel Bénéteau, Coordinator of the Folklore program at the University of Sudbury; Kevin FitzMaurice, Chair of the Indigenous Studies Department at the University of Sudbury; and Mélanie Smits, Aboriginal Education Consultant at the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario.

On Thursday, April 24, and Friday, April 25, some 130 Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) high school students will unleash their passion for music and art at the 6th edition of the Mélomanie cultural-artistic event. During this educational and identity-building experience, Catholic secondary school students with a strong interest in the arts will take part in a unique French language activity designed to complement the top-quality musical and arts programs offered in CSCNO high schools. The activities will take place on the Laurentian University campus. Members of the media are most welcome to attend all activities.
