The Ontario Ministry of Education recently announced that it is investing $16.5 million in capital funding for the construction of a new French language Catholic school in Hanmer / Val Thérèse. This funding will enable the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) to proceed with its project to build a new school for students currently enrolled at École Notre-Dame (Hanmer), École St-Joseph (Hanmer) and École Ste-Thérèse (Val Thérèse). The funding announcement is the outcome of the CSCNO’s consultation and feasibility study in 2013-2014.
“High-quality schools are the heart of our local communities and the foundation of our publicly funded education system,” stated Mrs. Mitzie Hunter, Minister of Education. “We know that better buildings support better learning. This funding is a strategic investment in student achievement and well-being, and in the long-term prosperity of our province.”
“We would like to thank the Ministry of Education for this great news that will allow us to provide modern learning space for our Hanmer and Val Thérèse students, as well as a welcoming, engaging, healthy and safe environment focused on Christ,” stated Mr. André Bidal, CSCNO President.
“Our parents and staff had expressed their desire to offer students a positive learning and working environment. The announced funding will enable us to offer a warm and user-friendly environment that will allow them to thrive in a green school designed for their future needs in our digital era,” explained Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau, CSCNO Director of Education.
The CSCNO schools in the Hanmer and Val Thérèse area benefit from a healthy and stable student enrollment. École Notre-Dame (Hamner), with its 290 students, is a JK to grade 8 school. École St-Joseph (Hanmer) has 146 students from JK to grade 3 while École Ste-Thérèse (Val Thérèse) counts 132 grade 4 to 8 students.
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 6,800 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
