The high quality of her science project has enabled École St-Paul (Lively) grade 8 student Rochelle Larivière to qualify for the 2018 Canada-Wide Science Fair, which is to be held in Ottawa on May 12-19. Rochelle is one of six Greater Sudbury Students who will be joining Canada’s top 500 young scientists at this national competition. Rochelle will be presenting her “La Phorie à la Pholie” science project, which guaranteed her a spot in the Canada-Wide Science Fair after winning several prizes at the Regional Fair in Sudbury last month.

This is Rochelle’s second Canada-Wide Science Fair. She took home the silver medal in the junior category at last year’s competition, which was held in Regina (Saskatchewan).

“The participation of one of our students in the Canada-Wide Science Fair reflects the quality of the educational program provided to our students, as well as the high level of excellence of our teachers in the fields of science and technology,” stated Ms. Lyse-Anne Papineau, Director of Education at the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario. “We are very proud of Rochelle and are convinced that she will represent us with honour at the national level.”

“CSCNO students have a truly well-earned reputation for academic excellence. One of our student scientists will now have an opportunity to shine at the national level and will surely take advantage of this unique, high-level science competition opportunity to reach new horizons,” commented CSCNO President André Bidal.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
