ÉSC Champlain gives back to the community following its 13th annual Homeless for a Night activity

October 31, 2023

On October 4, some 90 students as well as staff members from École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) took part in the 13th Homeless for a Night activity. With only cardboard boxes and tarps for shelters, the students were able to experience the reality of being homeless. They also collected non-perishable food items and monetary donations. Community members were able to stop by for a visit and donate to this great cause.

As well as raising awareness among students, the Homeless for a Night activity enabled the school to collect some $3,500 in donations, as well as non-perishable food items. With the funds and donations raised, the school was able to give back to four community organizations. ÉSC Champlain recently donated hygiene products and undergarments to the Sudbury Women’s Centre, some 20 boxes of food items to the Chelmsford Food Bank, baby formula and diapers to the Sudbury Infant Food Bank, and winter socks and boots to the Elgin Street Mission.

« The Homeless for a Night activity is very important for our students because it gives them an opportunity to learn about homelessness and make a difference in their community. Through this community involvement initiative, Champlain students help organizations that provide important support to people in need, » says Angèle Carr, Principal at École secondaire catholique Champlain.
