Students from Chelmsford’s École secondaire catholique Champlain showed exemplary scientific know-how at the 6th annual Scientific Innovation Olympiad which was held in the Science North VALE Cavern on October 26. This competition, which promotes scientific knowledge among students, enables teams of grade 9 to 12 students to measure their skills in a series of scientific time-trials events.
Both teams from ÉSC Champlain each earned a medal. The team of Taylor Soucy, Emily Gerling, Jayden Soucy and Zachary Belisle claimed the coveted gold medal, while the silver medal was earned by the squad of Joshua Robichaud, Zachary Peterson, Manon Filiatreault and Stéphane Saumure.
“This competition offers students a practical learning experience. It also requires students to apply their problem-solving knowledge and to put their scientific knowledge to good use,” explained Mr. René Goulard, science teacher at ÉSC Champlain.
“I take great pride in our students’ success and desire to excel at this regional event. Their success at the Scientific Innovation Olympiad is truly outstanding, since the goal of this knowledge competition is to inspire the students’ interest in sciences, engineering and technology, all of which is directly linked to our school’s academic goal,” stated Mr. Yves Laliberté, ÉSC Champlain Principal.
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 6,800 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
