CSC Nouvelon students to celebrate Franco-Ontarian Day

September 20, 2019

The provincial Franco-Ontarian Day will be observed on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. Hundreds of Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon students will celebrate this day along with staff and parents, with a multitude of activities in their schools and communities planned to honour the strength of their francophone community. The following is a list of activities hosted by CSC Nouvelon schools on September 25. Members of the media are invited to attend.

Students from École Saint-Joseph (Blind-River) will gather in front of their school at 8:50 a.m. for a flag-raising ceremony. Joining students at this event will be Blind River Mayor Sally Hagman, representatives of the Ontario Provincial Police, Father Lourdu of the Ste-Famille Parish and members of the Club Richelieu. Following the ceremony, students and staff will display their Franco-Ontarian pride during a rousing walk through the town streets.

Students and staff at École Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault Ste. Marie) will gather at noon for a flag-raising ceremony. Afterwards, secondary school students will liven up the school by playing a medley of francophone songs.

A rally is set to begin at Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury) at 1:45 p.m. While promoting Franco-Ontarian history, rights and culture, the activity will also include a fun-filled Franco-Ontarian karaoke for students and a flag-raising ceremony.

Following the broadcast of a student quiz show on their school’s radio, École St-Augustin (Garson) students will assemble at 9:30 am for a flag-raising ceremony. Wearing green and white, students will take part in a spirited march through the streets of Garson.

École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur (Sudbury) students will take part in a variety of identity-building activities featuring the Franco-Ontarian flag while the school cafeteria will offer a wide assortment of green coloured food items. Following a flag-raising ceremony at 1:15 p.m., students will gather for an aerial photo and an outdoor celebration.

École secondaire l’Horizon (Val Caron) students will be offered a barbecue starting at 11 a.m. during which the Horizon band will play a medley of francophone music. The entrance of the school will also be illuminated in green lights in the evening.
