CSC Nouvelon students to take part in upcoming Francophone Youth Parliament at Queen’s Park

February 13, 2020

From February 18 to 22, seven Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon students will be among the 80 Franco-Ontarian students to take part in the 14th Provincial Francophone Youth Parliament. This activity will enable students to become familiar with Ontario’s parliamentary system and the workings of the Ontario Legislative Assembly.

The following students have been selected to participate in this learning activity: Samantha Montgomery, Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury); Megan Boulard, ÉSC Champlain (Chelmsford); Gabrielle Poulin and Terry Vallière, ÉSC Franco-Ouest (Espanola); Katelyn Trivers and Benjamin Dennie, ÉSC Jeunesse-Nord (Blind River); and Dana Thomson, ÉS Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault Ste. Marie).

The Provincial Francophone Youth Parliament’s principal objective is to engage students to gain an interest and participate in Ontario politics and the provincial government. A key element in the Youth Parliament event will be a mock debate during which students will serve as MPPs, reporters or representatives of a non-governmental organization (NGO).

“Participating in the Youth Parliament was a great learning experience for me. Through this experience, I gained a better understanding of the Ontario provincial government system which I believe is important for me as a future voter. This understanding will allow me to make informed decision when presented with the ability to vote,” stated former participant Emily fox from ÉSC Jeunesse-Nord Student (Blind River).

The Provincial Francophone Youth Parliament is organized jointly by the Ontario Ministry of Education and the Fédération de la jeunesse franco-ontarienne (FESFO).

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence.
