Students from Sault Ste. Marie’s École Notre-Dame-du-Sault will represent the Algoma District at the upcoming Provincial First Lego League Competition to take place in Waterloo on January 11. The team, called the Notre-Dame-du-Sault Robots, displayed its ingenuity at the 2013 Algoma Regional First Lego League Competition by placing first overall, earning the right to represent the District of Algoma at this prestigious competition. Past winners of the Algoma Regional First Lego League Competition in 2012, the Robots will be taking part in the third Provincial First Lego League.

On Thursday, January 9, at 6:30 p.m., the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) will hold a public meeting at École Ste-Thérèse (4617 Ste-Thérèse St, Val Thérèse). The purpose of this session is to present the feasibility study and evaluation of the various French language Catholic school site options in Val Thérèse and Hanmer.  All options are conditional to the CSCNO’s securing funding from the Ministry of Education.

Grade 8 students and parents are invited to take part in the Open House events for all French Catholic secondary schools of the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) from Tuesday, January 14, to Thursday, January 16.

The Ministry of Education is encouraging area school boards to work together to address student accommodation needs in Elliot Lake. As a result, the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) and the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) are collaborating to determine how to best deliver education in English and in French in this community.

From Monday, December 16, to Thursday, December 19, about 100 artistic creations from grade 9 to 12 students will be on display at Sudbury’s Collège Notre-Dame (100 Lévis St.). The works of art from CND students will be on display from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. while the launch of the display will take place on Tuesday, December 17, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Students being showcased selected a creation among those completed since September while some students will put on display a work of art they created at the provincial VisionArt festival. Everyone is invited to attend this artistic exhibition promoting the talent of young Greater Sudbury artists.

Students from Espanola’s École secondaire catholique Franco-Ouest will offer a friendly Christmas gift-wrapping service at Giant Tiger (270 Center St., Espanola) on Tuesday, December 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. Donations received will go towards the students’ fundraising campaign in support of the international charity Free the Children. Community members are invited to have their presents wrapped in exchange for a donation that will go towards this fundraising initiative.

Sudbury - During its inaugural December 6, 2013 board meeting, Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) school trustees elected Mr. André Bidal as President for the 2013-2014 school year. Mr. Paul Demers will assume the vice-presidency for the same term.
