WHAT?  École St-Denis Elementary Senior Boys Basketball Tournament

Media representatives are cordially invited to view the basketball games that will be played by the 12 teams competing in the 2014 École St-Denis Elementary Senior Boys Basketball Tournament. This friendly competition will attract the participation of boys in grades 7and 8 from the area’s four school boards. The following Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario schools are taking part in the tournament: École St-Denis (Sudbury), École Notre-Dame (Hanmer), École St-Pierre (Sudbury) and École Félix-Ricard (Sudbury)

Aysha Cotterill, a grade 10 student at Wawa’s École secondaire Saint-Joseph is one of the two Grand Prize Winners of the 2013 Citizenship Challenge. Out of 57 000 participants, 15-year-old Aysha was declared “Student Citizen of the Year” after obtaining a perfect score on the Challenge.This É.s. Saint-Joseph student will travel to Ottawa from March 20 to 22. Staying at the Fairmont Château Laurier, Aysha will explore Canada's history and culture with tours of Parliament Hill, Rideau Hall, the National Gallery of Canada and the Canadian War Museum.

Students and staff from Val Caron’s École secondaire catholique l’Horizon recently launched the new Éco H2O ecological project. This initiative, linked to the schools High Skills Specialist Major in health and wellness, will make the school community aware of the importance of drinking water in the course of a day while at the same time reducing the number of plastic bottles.

Twenty teams from nine Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario elementary schools competed in the 11th annual Great Robotics Challenge (Grand défi robotique) that was held at Science North in Sudbury on February 27. The Grand défi robotique enables students from grades 4 through 8 to display their creativity, ingenuity and tenacity. This friendly competition encourages teamwork while initiating youngsters to the world of engineering and technology.

Sudbury’s Collège Notre-Dame will host a book fair featuring French-language books and educational products on Thursday, March 20, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The book fairs will allow students and their families to choose from a variety of French-language educational products such as books, videos, DVDs, software, and educational games. The book fairs will benefit students, since part of the profits will go towards the purchase of educational resources for the school. Admission is free and everyone is invited.

Four teams representing the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) will travel to Waterloo to take part in the Elementary and Secondary Provincial Cardboard Boat Races on March 5 and 6.

From March 4 to 8, five Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) students will be among the 80 grade 11 and 12 Franco-Ontarian students to take part in the 8th Provincial Francophone Youth Parliament. This activity will enable students to become familiar with Ontario’s parliamentary system and the workings of the Ontario Legislative Assembly. Students will also have the opportunity to meet with Members and Ministers of Provincial Parliament (MPP).
