Through its participation in the Welcoming Francophone Communities initiative in Sudbury, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon schools continue to benefit from the support of two settlement workers.

In their role as settlement workers in Greater Sudbury’s Francophone schools, Ms. Rosemonde Katché and Mr. Kevin Kouako guide and support students newly arrived in Canada and their families. They are available to help them familiarize themselves with life here and transition into their new environment.

Both settlement workers also provide a valuable support to Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon schools in ensuring the integration of students. In collaboration with schools staff, Rosemonde Katché and Kevin Kouako offer intercultural training workshops, support schools with their registration efforts, and act as ambassadors for Francophone schools in the Greater Sudbury region.

Aspiring to make its schools more welcoming and to help support the French-speaking immigrants they welcome, CSC Nouvelon benefits from the support of the Centre de santé communautaire du Grand Sudbury, which coordinates this project. This program is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

As part of its efforts to support newcomers and their families arriving or preparing to settle in the districts of Sudbury and Algoma, the CSC Nouvelon recently launched a new Welcome Guide to Support Newcomers and their Families (Guide d'accueil des familles nouvellement arrivées). The guide is available online: www.nouvelon.ca/guide-daccueil .

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSC Nouvelon provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 5,900 students enrolled in 27 elementary, 1 virtual school and 10 secondary schools.
