It is with great pride that Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon will offer a new hockey program starting in September 2024 for grade 7 and 8 students in École St-Augustin (Garson), École St-Denis (Sudbury) and École catholique Félix-Ricard (Sudbury). Associated to Collège Notre-Dame’s Hockey Canada Skills Academy, this new program will allow girls and boys with a passion for hockey to perfect their mastery of the sport within the framework of the school day. Interested students and parents can find out more during an information session on Wednesday, April 10, at 7 p.m., at Collège Notre-Dame (100 Lévis Street, Sudbury)..

This program is part of the grade 7 or 8 physical education course with supervision from certified and experienced CSC Nouvelon staff. Students registered in this new program will be able to perfect their hockey skills at various arenas in Sudbury. They will also receive specialized physical and cardiovascular training sessions. In its first year, this pilot project will admit only 25 participants from three schools. It is possible that the number of participants and schools associated with the program will be increased in 2025-2026 after its first year.

Aiming to enhance the educational experience of students by integrating hockey into the school day, this program will build confidence and self-esteem in participants while providing opportunities for academic and athletic development. This program aims to allow all students who already play hockey to work on developing their technical and individual skills in the classroom and on the ice.

"A large number of girls and boys in our elementary schools are passionate about hockey. This new hockey program will allow them to live their passion for this sport and achieve success in their studies. We are proud that the success of Collège Notre-Dame’s Hockey Canada Skills Academy will be shared with grade 7 and 8 students and will enrich their leaning experience in our schools,” stated Mr. Paul Henry, Director of Education and Secretary Treasurer at CSC Nouvelon.

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSC Nouvelon provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 5,650 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
