Sudbury – At its regular meeting held on June 26, 2013, the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) adopted a balanced operating budget of $118,702,843 and $5,197,649 in capital projects expenses for the 2013-2014 school year. This budget includes an increase of 1.3% ($1.50 million) in revenues as compared to 2012-2013.

The 2013-2014 budget is based on a predicted decrease of 1.1% of its student population for September 2013, as well as on the expenses related to the implementation of the new Full-Day Early Learning – Kindergarten Program.

As well, in order to meet the requirements of the Full-Day Early Learning – Kindergarten Program, the school board expects to hire nine additional early childhood educators for the upcoming school year. As parts of its ongoing efforts to actively contribute to student success, the CSCNO will maintain the present level of investment in school budgets and will dedicate no less than 71% of its expenses directly to classrooms.

“All Board decisions, including budgetary ones, are made in the best interests of our students and communities,” stated CSCNO President Mr. Marcel Montpellier. “As in previous years, the Conseil’s priority is to maintain the essential services and investments that contribute directly to the success of our students. We are confident that this budget will meet the needs and expectations of our school communities and will enable the Board to continue to provide a quality French-language Catholic education.”

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
