July 2, 2013

At its regular meeting on June 26, 2012, the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) recognized remarkable persons for their outstanding contributions to French Catholic education during the 2012-2013 school year. The merit awards provide an opportunity for the CSCNO to reward two members of the school board who, through their efforts and actions, are accessible Catholic and francophone role models.

Student: Désirée Leclair

Désirée displays great pride towards her language and her faith. An outstanding school ambassador at École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur (Sudbury), she transmitted her sense of school belonging and pride to future Griffons during welcoming activities for grade 8 students. Highly involved in school committees and sports teams, Désirée also provided support to the Fédération de la jeunesse franco-ontarienne (FESFO).  Coach of a competitive ringette team, Désirée has invested 273 hours of volunteer work in the community and contributed to the success of her Sacré-Coeur’s fund-raising campaign in support of CTV’s Christmas Telethon.

Teaching staff: Michelle Boivin

This École Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford) teacher is a model of pride towards her language and her faith both at school and in the community. In addition to incorporating each month’s value into her classroom teaching, Michelle produced a booklet of songs from her family’s repertory as part of her efforts to promote her French cultural heritage throughout the Alliance St-Joseph school community. In addition to coordinating campfire songs during the “Je MAIN tiens mon français” activity, she also co-authored several classroom books that are shared at the library. Michelle’s enthusiasm, artistic talent and dedication to her students are an inspiration to her colleagues.

“We extend a great deal of gratitude to all of members of our school community for their commitment and their contributions to the well-being and advancement of their school and of the CSCNO. This year, the Conseil scolaire takes great pride in recognizing the outstanding contributions of Désirée Leclair and Michelle Boivin to French-language Catholic education,” commented CSCNO President Marcel Montpellier.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
