November 13, 2013

On November 11, the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) held a public meeting at École St-Joseph (Hanmer). The purpose of this session was to consult its Hanmer and Val Thérèse school communities in the evaluation of various French language Catholic school options that may be offered to students if funding can be secured from the Ministry of Education.

The CSCNO is presently evaluating its students’ needs as well as its school facilities in this section of Valley East. As part of this process, the CSCNO will undertake a feasibility study of École St-Joseph, École Ste-Thérèse and École Notre-Dame as well as the evaluation of eleven school site options in Hanmer and Val Thérèse. These options include the construction of a new school as well as the modernization of existing buildings.

The feasibility study and evaluation of the various French language Catholic school site options in Val Thérèse and Hanmer will be presented to the three school communities in early January 2014 during a second public meeting. This gathering will further enable parents and school staff to share their opinion and make recommendations.

The preliminary document outlining this project and identifying the 11 school options is available online at: http://www.nouvelon.ca/options/hanmer/valtherese.pdf .

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) operates four elementary schools in Valley East. École Notre-Dame (Hamner) is a JK to grade 8 school while École St-Joseph (Hanmer) has students from JK to grade 3 and École Ste-Thérèse (Val Thérèse) counts grade 4 to 8 students. The area is also served by École Jean-Paul II (Val Caron) and École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron).

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
