On Tuesday, November 26, and Wednesday, November 27, grade 8 students from 12Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) elementary schools will take part in a Heath Career Fair. This activity, provided by the Consortium national de formation en santé (CNFS) – Volets Collège Boréal and Laurentian University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOMS), will make students aware of the wide variety of career opportunities in the health sector and of the importance of offering health services in French.

The November 26 Health Career Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 12-noon at École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur (261 Notre-Dame Avenue, Sudbury) while the November 27 fair will run from from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (1650 Valleyview Road, Val Caron). Workhops will offer students valuable information on a variety of careers such as paramedic, pharmaceutical technician, medicine, nursing, and dental hygiene. Participants will also receive a health career information kit.

The intent of this activity is to help orient students in career and secondary school academic program selections. By hosting this event in two CSCNO secondary schools, the postsecondary partners are providing a strategic support to French-language catholic schools offering a Specialist High Skills Major in health and wellness.

École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford), École secondaire catholique Horizon (Val Caron) and École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur (Sudbury) are proud to offer the SHSM health and wellness program to students. The SHSM health and wellness program makes it possible for students to personalize their high school experience and accumulate transferable skills and competencies to facilitate their entry into the job market. The program provides a solid basis of sector-specific knowledge and contextualized health and wellness operations skills on which to build their training or apprenticeship experience or pursue their studies at the college or university level. Students are exposed to the realities of the work environment, thus ensuring that they are better prepared to make informed career decisions.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
