Franco-Ontarian Christian Leadership:

75,000 Students Will Gather in Prayer

100 Students from the Eight French-language Catholic School Boards Will Rally!

Sudbury, April 28, 2014 – On Tuesday, May 6, and Wednesday, May7, more than 100 students from the eight French-language Catholic School Boards in Ontario will converge on Toronto to take part in an important Symposium that will allow them to affirm their Catholic faith loud and clear, and develop their Christian leadership.

Organized by the French-language Catholic Education Orientation Committee (COREC) under the theme "You Shall Be My Witnesses," this large-scale Catholic gathering will allow students to come together to celebrate the importance of the Catholic faith in their life, and draw up action plans as leaders. The conference will conclude in grand fashion with the celebration of a special Mass led by His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins to celebrate Catholic Education Week. This Mass will be held at the Sacré-Coeur Parish in Toronto, a place where the Francophone Catholic community in the area has very strong roots.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario is pleased to announce that it will be represented at this Symposium by a delegation of eight students from the following Catholic high schools: Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury), École secondaire Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault Ste. Marie), École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron), École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur (Sudbury) and École secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau).

While the great Mass is being celebrated in Toronto, all of the French-language Catholic schools in Ontario will celebrate Mass or a Liturgy of the Word on Wednesday, May 7. This means that more than 75,000 students across the province will gather in prayer to celebrate their Catholic faith together within a school community that is deeply rooted in Christian values.

The French-language Catholic Education Orientation Committee (COREC) is a convergence point for organisations dedicated to the advancement of French-language Catholic education in Ontario. Its members include the Conseil ontarien des directions de l’éducation catholique (CODEC), the Office provincial de l’éducation catholique en Ontario (OPÉCO), the Association franco-ontarienne des conseils scolaires catholiques (AFOCSC) and the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario.
