Students and staff from Chelmsford’s École Alliance St-Joseph will host a fund-raising event on Monday, June 9, in support ofNorthern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer (NOFCC). This organization helps Northern Ontario families, living with a child diagnosed with cancer, with their immediate financial needs and offers them educational and emotional support. Members of the media are invited to this event. École Alliance St-Joseph is located at 3634 Errington Avenue in Chelmsford.

At 9:30 a.m., the Alliance St-Joseph school community will gather for a walkathon in support of children diagnosed with cancer. In fact, students have been collecting funds for the NOFCC since the month of May. Various activities will be offered to students from 11 a.m. to 12-noon: junior and senior kindergarten, visit of firemen, Best Start Hub workshops and story time; grades 1 to 3, treasure hunt; grades 4 to 6, Amazing Race; grades 7-8, tug-of-war. A family barbecue will follow.

Also, during the course of the day, some 40 students as well as school staff will have their hair cut or their head shaved. The donation of their hair will go towards the creation of wigs for persons having lost their hair following chemotherapy.

Since the start of the school year, École Alliance St-Joseph has held a variety of fund-raising activities in support of the Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer. Having already raised $2,600, the school hopes its fun-filled day of activities on June 9 will increase this amount, thus making a difference in the lives of Northern Ontario families who have a child diagnosed with cancer.
