Public information session on school revitalization projects in Espanola on June 2

The Ministry of Education recently confirmed funding for the revitalization of education in Espanola. The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO), Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) and Rainbow District School Board will now be able to proceed with school revitalization projects.

Sacré-Coeur student to receive prestigious Top 20 Under 20 Award

On June 5, Mélanie-Rose Frappier, a grade 11 student at École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur in Sudbury, will stand among a group of students from across Canada selected to receive the prestigious Canada’s Top 20 Under 20 Award (20 ados avec brio). Held annually, the Canada’s Top 20 Under 20 Awards recognize 20 young people under the age of 20 from across the country, chosen by members of the Order of Canada for their exceptional leadership, innovation and achievement. Youth in Motion will celebrate the 20 recipients during the Top 20 Under 20™ Awards Breakfast Celebration, to take place in Toronto.

Stef Paquette to present St-Jean Baptiste concert to some 1800 grade 6 to 8 students

On Thursday, June 5, at 10:30 a.m., some 1,800 grade 6, 7 and 8 francophone students from some 30 Greater Sudbury, Sudbury East, North Shore, Algoma and other Northern Ontario schools will gather at Bell Park’s Grace Hartman Amphitheatre for the St-Jean Baptiste performance featuringthe Franco-Ontarian artist Stef Paquette.

Later this week, cyclists taking part in The Great Canadian Ride (La Grande Traversée) will stop at two Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools during their trek across Northern Ontario. This group of Francophone cyclists will be provided a warm welcome by students and staff from École Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault Ste. Marie), École Saint-Joseph (Blind River) and École secondaire catholique Jeunesse-Nord (Blind River) on May 29, 30 and 31.

SUDBURY – The University of Sudbury and Sudbury’s École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur will proceed with the planting of 100 trees, generously donated by Collège Boréal, on Tuesday, May 27, at 10 a.m.on the grounds of École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur (261, Notre Dame Avenue, Sudbury).

Sacré-Cœur student awarded the Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers

Sierra Howald, a grade 12 student at Sudbury’s École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur, was awarded the Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers during a Ceremony held on May 14 in the Ontario Lieutenant-Governor’s Suite. The Honorable David C. Onley was on hand to present the award to seven exceptional youths selected from over 300 candidates. Sierra received this prestigious award in recognition of her community involvement that has an impact on many of her fellow citizens.

CSCNO schools to offer warm welcome to incoming junior kindergarten students

In the coming weeks, Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) French Catholic elementary schools will be offering a warm welcome to children who are starting junior kindergarten in September 2014 as well as their parents/guardians. All families having registered their children in a French language Catholic school are invited to the “Bienvenue à la maternelle” (Welcome to Kindergarten) event. Parents who have not registered their children in a CSCNO school still have time to register for this event by calling their neighbourhood school.
